Results of the survey in Issue 3

In Issue 7 we asked you to participate in our joint survey with IT-Sicherheit magazine on the subject of "Outsourcing IT Security". We thank the many readers who accepted our invitation and responded.

Here is a quick look at the most important results:

  • The financial crisis did not cause many German companies to cut back on IT security. 64 percent of the respondents said that their companies did not or do not plan to cut back on IT security despite the financial crisis. Only 13 percent reduced their expenditures in this field.

  • 60 percent of the respondents said that the financial crisis plays no role in their decision whether or not to outsource all or part of their IT security activities.

  • The most important motivation for outsourcing was the service provider's expertise (29 percent).

  • In response to the question in which areas outsourcing IT security makes the most sense, 27 percent said e-mail security, followed by web security (22 percent) and backup/archiving (21 percent).
