Protecting the infrastructure with recipient-based
enSurance Mailbomb Protection:
in the event of a mailbomb attack, it is possible to define how many
e-mails are acceptedfor a specific account over each time interval,
regardless of which sender they are from.

The term "mailbomb" refers to the technique of sending a large number of e-mails to a specific person or a specific system. The idea is to send so many e-mails that the server is unable to buffer the e-mails properly, or to simply overload the server and cause it to crash. Mail bombing is one of the oldest known methods of a classic denial of service attack. The recipient is literally 'bombarded' with a multitude of identical e-mails. In an alternative version of mail bombing, the e-mails are not sent to a specific recipient, but all come from the same sender.

The enSurance Mailbomb Protection protects users from both these mail bombing techniques by enabling customers to individually configure the number of e-mails that can be accepted for a specific recipient or from a specific sender over a defined period of time.
