Freezing

The novel freezing function of eXpurgate provides a further improvement of the spam recognition performance. By definition spam e-mails are sent to numerous recipients within a short period of time. eXpurgate inspects e-mails for that most definitive of spam characteristics - that being mass mailing - thus unambiguously identifying unsolicited messages. By design, this method guarantees that only an absolute minimum of individual, business-relevant e-mails will falsely be classified as "spam" (false positives).

By using the freezing option of eXpurgate 2.0 users may now define whether suspicious e-mails that have not yet been definitely categorized as spam will be held back by the program for a while: the e-mails in question will not be passed on immediately to their respective recipient(s) but will be "frozen" for a short period of time. After this customizable time span, the checksum of such a suspicious e-mail will again be checked against the eXpurgate database. If the suspicious e-mail is definitely spam, it will most likely be categorized as such due to the short freezing time and the repeated check. Freezing effectively increases eXpurgate´s spam recognition performance as the initial e-mails of a new spam wave are better identified.

All customers using the inhouse solution of version 3.0 can activate the freezing function for a small extra charge. The freezing time, as well as the recheck interval, is customizable. For all customers who are using the ASP solution, the new feature is integrated by default.
