How eXpurgate works
The eXpurgate spam filter and e-mail categorisation service is based on innovative new technology developed by eleven for detecting spam and categorising e-mails. Companies can implement eXpurgate either as an external managed service solution (ASP version) or as an in-house (plug-in) solution.
Bulkcheck technology with a checksum algorithm
For every e-mail categorized a code containing only few bytes will be compared against the
eleven server
A key component of eXpurgate technology is the “bulk check”. The proprietary checksum algorithm reduces each e-mail to a code made up of just a few bytes that gives no indication of the original content of the e-mail. This code is checked against the codes of other e-mails with the help of the eXpurgate database. If the same or sufficiently similar code is found often enough, there is a high probability that the e-mail is spam. In conjunction with other inspection procedures, unwanted e-mails (spam) can be reliably distinguished from more welcome mass mailing (for example newsletters).
Zero false positives
This bulk-mail criterion enables eXpurgate to prevent individual e-mails from being wrongly rejected as spam. The way the system operates means the loss of business-related e-mails is impossible (“zero false positives”). The eXpurgate false positive rate is below 0.00001%.
E-mail categorization service
eXpurgate not only recognizes spam, it also reliably categorizes all incoming e-mail. That way legitimate individual e-mails (clean) can be distinguished from mass mailing, and desired mass e-mails such as newsletters (bulk) can be distinguished from undesired mass e-mails (spam). eXpurgate currently uses 16 different categories for classification.
Maintenance-free and resource-efficient
After installation, the spam filter and e-mail categorization service is practically maintenance-free throughout its operation and, unlike other anti-spam solutions, requires no regular updates. Because eXpurgate only checks and compares small checksums, this solution has a high checking speed that in general causes no noticeable delay in delivery of incoming e-mail, and requires only a minimum of system resources. Additional hardware is not required. And because eXpurgate doesn’t touch the content of the e-mails it checks, it guarantees a high level of confidentiality and data protection.
